I posted this note on Google+ a few weeks ago, and I wanted to expand on it and let you know where this has lead me…

“I gave a presentation at a local camera shop (Showcase Photo&Video in Atlanta) last weekend. The presentation was “Mirrorless cameras for Nature Photography” and it was for the Georgia Nature Photographers Association.

I had cameras on display from Panasonic, Olympus and Fuji (sorry, I don’t have a Sony). I didn’t have any agenda going into it. I used my recent articles on the subject from SmallCameraBigPicture as an outline, and went over the strengths and weaknesses of the different camera bodies and lenses for specific applications.

About two thirds of the way through the presentation a man raised his hand and said, “so basically what you’re saying is that you like the Olympus and the Fuji, but the Panasonic GH3 is the way to go.” His comment stopped me in my tracks. I guess I hadn’t really thought about it that way, but he was right. For what I shoot the Panasonic GH3 IS the way to go. Photo, video, handling, features… The GH3 is the tool that I reach for most often.

It’s funny what you learn while you’re teaching. I hadn’t even realized that I had a favorite camera :-)”

About a week after that presentation at Showcase I received an invitation to join Panasonic’s Lumix Luminary team. For me the timing was perfect. I have never endorsed a product that I didn’t use and believe in. I realize that my clients, students and readers look to me to help them make good choices when it comes to buying equipment. I would never recommend a product just to make a buck.

For me the Lumix GH3 is the perfect combination of DSLR features and Micro Four Thirds convenience. I also believe that Panasonic is committed to keeping the Lumix brand at the forefront of image quality and features. I don’t think it will be long before sensor size isn’t even part of our conversations about digital cameras, and I think Panasonic and Lumix cameras have a lot to do with that.

I’m excited and proud to be part of the Lumix Luminary team. We have some really amazing events coming to showcase this great Lumix gear. Look for me or another member of our team at an event near you!

Congrats, Rob! I haven’t been on G+ lately…the site is giving me troubles, but Google is great and in daily contact with me to get it resolved.

Anyway, just wanted to say congratulations. This is awesome. I’m loving my FZ200 and can’t wait to get a removable lens system.
