You will have the opportunity to shoot landscapes, waterfalls, portraits, macro, video and MORE. I’ve planned this trip to introduce you to the culture of Costa Rica as well as the wildlife. The week will be filled with wildlife like monkeys, sloths, caiman, hummingbirds, toucans, parrots, [more birds than I can list!], butterflies, snakes, spiders, leaf-cutter ants... you get the idea!

“This was an absolutely delightful trip! Every time we turned around, we were stumbling across some rare and new wonder.“
The instructors will offer tips and techniques during all of the shooting activities. We will also offer in-depth presentations and exercises each day covering topics like:
Daylight Fill-in Flash

Finishing and special effects in Lightroom 5
Wednesday and Saturday afternoons are classroom sessions featuring live critiques and Lightroom 5 processing tips. The instructors will help you pick out and edit your best photos and videos of the week. We will enjoy a slideshow of your wonderful images before our farewell dinner.
“It couldn't have been better. There was so many wonderful experiences it is hard to say which was my favorite. The expertise of our instructors was really made it. Nice to be able to ask questions while working instead of a traditional classroom setting.”

“It's not every day or in life for that matter that you get an opportunity to share paradise with such diverse and talented people.
Thank you every one for being part of my life altering journey.”
In addition to photography instructors Rob Knight and Bob Fitzgibbons, local guide Enrique Molena is on staff to act as our naturalist guide and liaison with the community in Monterrey and La Fortuna. Enrique was born and raised in Monterrey, and he has been a professional guide in this area for fifteen years. His knowledge of Costa Rica’s flora and fauna will amaze you!
“Great time and enjoyed meeting some new friends…And just generally enjoying good company, good shooting, and looking forward to future photo trips with a great leader. Thanks Rob!”
The Leaves & Lizards Volcano Cabin Retreat will serve as your home base for the first leg of this unique photography adventure. Leaves & Lizards’ commitment to the community and the environment made them the obvious choice to host this event. Their cabins have a comfortable, rustic feel, while offering modern conveniences like Wi-Fi internet access. Each one is specifically designed to offer you the best possible views of the Arenal Volcano. Your meals at the Lava Lizard restaurant feature all locally produced ingredients , including dairy products from their own cow. Kitchen scraps go to feed the chickens and pigs which in turn produce eggs and meat for us to eat; a perfect circle of sustainability.
“This photography workshop was a great experience that provided numerous opportunities to learn more about photography and the local culture. Both the instructors and local guides are very knowledgeable and pointed out things that I would never have noticed on my own. This well-organized, fun, and friendly workshop was the best way to jumpstart my interest in photography.”
The adventure then shifts south through the central valley to the beautiful Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Resort. You will enjoy a private cabin in the cloud forest with all of the modern amenities close at hand. Besides the natural beauty at Villa Blanca there is a beautiful chapel on the grounds, as well as examples of typical Costa Rican (or Tico) crafts. You will experience the wildlife of the cloud forest through the eyes of our naturalist guides, and get a private tour of the INbio research facility at Villa Blanca.
The Arenal Photo Adventure workshop is suitable for photographers of all skill levels. The small class size insures that beginners can get the time they need with an instructor, and experienced photographers will have unique shooting opportunities and the chance to fine-tune their work.
